The Second World Summit for Social Development builds on the foundational work of the 1995 Copenhagen Summit, where world leaders adopted the Copenhagen Declaration and Programme of Action to commit to eradicating poverty, achieving full employment, and promoting social integration. Thirty years later, in a global context marked by widening inequality, demographic transformations, and new technological and environmental challenges, the second summit reaffirms the central role of social development in international agendas.
Scheduled for 2025, the summit provides a vital platform for inclusive dialogue and coordinated action. It brings together leaders from governments, the private sector, civil society, academia, and the UN system to exchange insights, renew commitments, and propose solutions aligned with contemporary realities. The summit’s theme, “Social Justice and Inclusion in a Changing World,” reflects the urgency of rethinking social policy frameworks to ensure equity, dignity, and resilience. Its outcomes are expected to feed into the broader follow-up of the 2030 Agenda and related global processes.
