The APAN Adaptation Forum is the largest and most important gathering of climate adaptation practitioners in the Asia-Pacific region. It is organized by the Asia Pacific Adaptation Network (APAN) and has served as a flagship event since 2010. The Forum provides a collaborative space for governments, civil society, researchers, youth, and private sector actors to share knowledge, shape regional priorities, and co-create solutions for climate resilience.
Spanning 50+ countries, it fosters dialogue across scales—from local to global—on emerging challenges, enabling long-term planning and practical implementation of adaptation strategies.
Since its inception in 2010, the Forum has been instrumental in:
Mainstreaming climate adaptation into development planning
Promoting systems-based approaches
Building bridges across sectors (e.g., health, food, water, infrastructure)
Empowering underrepresented voices such as youth and Indigenous communities
The 8th APAN Forum (held in 2023) was themed “Resilience for All: Enabling Transformative Implementation”, emphasizing whole-of-society approaches and cross-sectoral integration.
2025 Theme: Resilience for All: Catalyzing Transformational Adaptation
The 9th Forum builds on previous insights to explore transformational adaptation—moving beyond incremental change to achieve large-scale, systemic shifts that increase resilience and equity.
Key Objectives include:
Clarifying what transformational adaptation is, and how it differs from incremental approaches
Showcasing innovative policies, technologies, and financing models
Identifying strategic entry points for multi-stakeholder collaboration
Promoting the integration of transformational adaptation into national and regional agendas
Highlighting real-world examples and success stories from across the region
The Forum will center discussions around four interconnected systems:
Food and Agricultural Systems
Land, Water Ecosystems & Biodiversity
Infrastructure, Cities & Industries
Health, Livelihoods & Societies (with emphasis on social protection and climate-health linkages)
These will be supported by enabling dialogues to explore synergies, interdependencies, and co-benefits between these systems.
🖥️ In August 2025, the APAN Secretariat will coordinate a series of webinars to:
Introduce the concept and relevance of transformational adaptation
Foster a shared understanding across stakeholders
Gather feedback and co-create recommendations ahead of the Forum
The dialogue sessions will provide in-depth discussions on cross-cutting issues such as community resilience, ecosystem-health linkages, and adaptive governance.
Expected participants include representatives from:
Governments and policy institutions
Scientific and research organizations
UN agencies and international organizations
Financial institutions and donors
Private sector and industry
Civil society and Indigenous communities
Youth networks and media
